"On every occasion and in every way, Mary comes to the aid of our misery, calms our
fears, and perks up our faith."
-St.
Bernard of Clairvaux |
By way of summary, whatever the basis of
membership in the MIM, conditions for membership are the following:
1) Registration in some Cenacle;
2) Consecration to the Immaculate after a period of preparation and thereafter wearing of
the Miraculous Medal (with daily recitation of the prayer: O Mary conceived without
sin...) as a sign of that consecration;
3) Growth in holiness in an expressly Marian mode, with special stress on poverty and
penance, on love of the Blessed Sacrament and frequent confession and communion;
4) Regular participation in the meetings of the Cenacles (or Fraternities);
5) Support of the missionary apostolate of the MIM: in the family and one's environment,
with the mass-media, with sacrifice and good-example.
"The devil is always looking for someone to devour. In the same way, Mary is always
looking for someone She can help in anyway."
-St. Leo the Great |
Faithful fulfillment of the duties of
membership in the MIM will intensify two characteristics of Catholic life, particularly
essential to the Church as she prepares for the day of her Savior's final coming in glory:
the Marian mode of the life of grace; and the missionary mode of all activity undertaken
by the faithful, precisely because they believe as did the "Handmaid of the
Lord". The missionary dynamic of the Church directed to the salvation of all souls is
activated precisely to the degree the interior life of her members is fully
marianized.
That "marianization" concretely in this time of pilgrimage is always in
reference to the Immaculate Heart pierced on Calvary. Hence, the central importance of
poverty and penance in the spirituality of the MIM: not any poverty and penance, but that
of the Immaculate who because Immaculate said - Be it done to me according to your word.
In order to appreciate why the late Pope Paul
VI said that one could only be Christian and Christ-like to the degree one is Mary-like,
the MIM recommends for mediation and spiritual reading the book of Fr. Stefano M. Manelli:
All Generations Shall Call Me Blessed. Biblical Mariology, especially as a guide to the
"seven key biblical passages on Mary": Gen 3:15; Lk 1:28; Lk 1:43; Jn 2:1 ff; Jn
19:27; Acts 1:14; Apoc 12:1 ff). In this way the members of the MIM will come to see why
the spirituality of total consecration to the Immaculate along the lines traced by St.
Francis of Assisi and St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe is so crucial to the Church in her present
moment. Further, they will come to desire and implement that kind of spirituality in their
own lives as docile instruments of the Immaculate for the conversions of souls and for the
crushing of the head of the serpent-enemy in all its various contemporary forms, not least
free-masonry and "new age" cults.
Once this type of spirituality is in place,
the activity of the MIM begins to assume its natural contours: effectiveness by way of
simple presence of its members; and effectiveness by way of formal organization, either in
view of the sanctification of its members or in view of a missionary apostolate. The
formal activities of the MIM are governed locally by the local council of the Cenacle,
nationally by the MIM national council and internationally by the general council of
Central Cenacle.
